Case study Skandom
A configurator that sells homes
Skandom builds Scandinavian-style timber-frame homes — a process that's hard to explain on a single page. We designed a website with a configurator that does the salesperson's job and turns curiosity into qualified enquiries.

Context
Skandom sells homes its clients can’t see in a showroom. The decision to build takes weeks of comparing technologies, costs and finishes — and most websites in this industry leave the client with a PDF and a phone number. Skandom wanted the opposite: a website that leads the way.
The challenge
How do you explain a construction process without overwhelming people — while collecting enough specifics that the first sales call starts with half the ground already covered? The answer was a configurator: a tool that educates while feeling like play.

The process
We started with Skandom’s sales team — they know which questions keep coming up. That knowledge became the site architecture and the configurator script:
- a map of customer questions turned into configurator steps — floor area, standard of finish, timeline,
- a calm, Scandinavian identity: plenty of light, natural imagery, zero shouting,
- animations that bring order — every configurator step has its own micro-interaction and a clear state,
- the quote as the natural end of the game, not an intimidating wall of form fields.

The solution
The website runs two paths at once. Readers get a clear story about the technology and completed builds. Doers assemble their home in seconds and see an indicative price. Both paths end the same way: a specific, well-described enquiry in the sales inbox.
Results
The configurator changed the nature of sales conversations: clients arrive with a ready configuration and ask about details, not basics. The quote below says it better than charts.
We used to explain over the phone what a timber-frame home is. Now we talk timelines and finishes — the website handles the rest.
